The start of the book hooked me instantly to it. It has this chill horrific feeling to it that can be only created by a good crime fiction writer…then it all fails to dust. Literary I lost the will to read when a certain event happened.
Let me give you the short description of what happens in the book, don’t worry it won’t spoil too much.
We have this wonderful Christian family enjoying themselves in the woods. During this vacation of theirs, the youngest daughter is kidnapped and murdered. You can already feel the chills just form reading those chapters, but then it starts. The real horror….and I don’t mean that this story gets any worse in the good sense. It just goes down the drain due to spirituality and God.
When I first picked up this book I didn’t really read what genre it is, it was recommended to me as a crime fiction….yet it turned out to be a book about spirituality.
Don’t get me wrong I do like the thought of spirituality, but my hopes of reading a good crime story about kidnapping and revenge where shattered in an instant when the father of the kidnapped kid starts to see God in his many forms.
Like why would you even do this to me? You had such an amazing start and now you are all chill and won’t revenge your daughter.
Anyway besides that it goes down the drain for me, the book is really well written and even though I hated it I was hooked. I wanted to know more, to find out what will happened next and this is why I take off my hat for mister Young. He managed to keep me interested in something I hate, and frankly that makes a good book stand out from the rest. But of course I am not rating books based on my addiction to it, that would be just ludicrous from my part.
Would I recommend the book?
Well not really to everyone. This is a book that goes well with the folks that like the church, religious people are will be surely fascinated by this book, but when it comes to the average reader, well that’s debatable.
I personally didn’t enjoy the middle and ending, the start was just mind blowing.
