Have you ever seen the wind blow away a rainy day?
Well I didn’t , but I so wished to see it one day. Born under the star of the sufferer, on 6th of January, a horrible weather outside, a day for my fathers pride, but there he stood holding me, a tear of joy followed by a tear of agony. One by one the tears dropped on me, the day I was brought into this world my mother left it. She left this world, went to another, leaving me alone with my father. A god amongst man, he stood there in tears as his wife passed away, holding his newborn son. No words he could say would save her, no action he could take to get her back. Yet in this immense pain, a laughter brought the heart that just turned to stone back to life. And it was beating harder and harder.
“This is my son, Okami, shall you be strong like your father and kind like your mother was, and one day my son you will stop all the tears in this world, one day you will save as all.”
And thats how my story goes, the chosen son , the first born that was also the last born from the Tamashi clan of Erihaven the frozen land.
Destined to be king , yet here I am just wasting my days thinking about the past, my mothers death, my fathers death….it all lead to the fall of the clan, Erihaven covered under the ice, what was my father thinking when he let the fate of everyone in my hand, a day doesn’t go without pain, a wound so deep that I think it will never close. The only thing that I have now are Byview and Fallhaust , the two wolfs that grew up with me, they said they are part of the prophecy , they said that the wolfs will protect me, they said they will bring me luck. But where is my luck now? Twenty summers have past since I was brought to life in this world, but I never felt alive, like I never lived in the first place. My days flew by, living alone in the now overgrown forest of my whipped out clan, a big house that is on the brink of crushing in, hunting all day, surviving , yet I do not know why I even try, why do the gods hate me, why wont they let me die so I can join my father and my mother in that other world. The life was going the usual way, cutting some wood, hunting some animals and making tools. But there was a different smell in the forest this time, something was off, maybe just a passing traveler who lost his way, I thought to myself letting it pass. I do not like to interfere with the people outside my forest, they are now all just insane, always wanting more and more money, more and more power. I shall stay away from those fools and just die when my time comes with no worry. I went to  my shaky bed, I have grown, I have outgrown even my father, my feet always hang from the edge of the bed. In the morning I started to wander through my forest , the smell of a human being was still there, it made me curious, who dared to enter my forest? Didn’t they hear that it is cursed, didn’t they feel the misery. Byview and Fallhaust must have smelled it before me, I couldn’t find them beside me when I woke up, but what do I care, the humans should be eaten. As I walked through my forest , behind a tree there she was, a sight that amazed me. It was a young woman, probably younger than me in a white robe, running away from something I couldn’t see. I didn’t think, my kindness will one day be the end of me, I rushed towards her, I only had my bow with me, but what could I do if I ran towards her. I got an arrow and tried to aim at the beast chasing the young lady. I shot but it hit into a tree. That was the moment she noticed me, her red eyes, they were looking at me, I never seen a sight that frightened me, but those eyes were something else. I rushed towards her, for some reason she stopped , she didn’t ran she just stood there looking at me.
“Get down!!!!” I screamed loudly
But there was no answer, she didn’t move , she just stood there. She just looked at me like she never seen a human being before. I rushed towards her and got to her before the creature chasing her. I pushed her to the side.
“Please stand there, do not move.” I said, again no response. I looked at her, her eyes were closed and she didn’t get up. I got in front of her and pulled out my dagger and stood there waiting to see what it was. The mist was a bit thicker than usually and I was just looking around to see what will come out and from where. Branch cracked to my right and I turned to that side in a flash. A bear like creature jumped out of the mist towards me. I managed to stab it in his paw but the power of his attack made the dagger fly out of my hand. I knew I hit him as he got a little back and started to growl.
Standing in front of him now with nothing left but my bare hands, I was only thinking about death. Its rare for me to feel fear of death as it is something I got used to , but this time it was different , this time I had no weapons, no friends to help me,  I was sure this was the end of me.
If she could only wake up and run away. This creature was to formidable for me to kill with only my bare hands, the only thing I could do is try to make it swallow my hand so that I can choke it to death, one hand is a good trade for two lives.
The thing  started to rush towards me and I prepared to go say goodbye to my arm. As it jumped out of the mist came Byview and bite its throat from the left side, the creature than pushed off Byview as Fallhaust jumped on it from behind biting in his back. I rushed  towards my dagger to stab him. As I got to it I turned around to see both Byview and Fallhaust in front of it growling at that creature. As I got in line with them the creature started slowly to back down. I screamed at it and it turned around and started to retreat.
“Wait don’t, let it go.” I said to my wolfs who stopped. As soon as the thing was out of sight my fearless companions turned into little house pets, jumping on me and licking me.
“Stop it you guys, we need to help this girl out first.”
I stood up and grabbed her.
“Byview come here, help me carry her.” I said turning around to him while  holding her in my arms.
It was the first time Byview growled at me, both of them growled and refused to help me.
“She needs help , why are you acting so strange?” I said as I started to carry her towards my place. When I got her to my home I checked her for any injuries. The only one she had was on her head, which was probably my fault for pushing her to hard. I put her in my bed to rest as I went on to do my daily tasks. I got back to the forest , better prepared than this morning. I was wondering the whole day what that creature was. It looked like a bear but its claws were bigger and the color of its fur wasn’t nor brown nor black, it was green, I never seen that before.
It was a good hunting day , I managed to catch some rabbits with the trap I set last night so I had to eat for some days if managed my portions right. As I was skinning the rabbits in the yard I heard laud noises coming from the house. I rushed fast inside to find Byview  trying to attack the girl I saved.
“Byview, stop it, get out she is a guest!” I screamed at him, he just looked at me like he wanted to warn me about something and walked out growling.
“I am sorry about that, they do not enjoy the company of other humans. Are you feeling better? Are you hungry ?” I asked looking at the frightened girl.
“Are you one of them?” she said with a angry and scared voice, from the corner of the room where she was driven.
“Who are they? I am just…well a huntsman.”
“You are one of them, aren’t you! You want to kill me too!” she screamed
“Oh you mean the wolfs, don’t worry they are harmless and I wont kill you, why would I save you if I wanted to kill you?” I said trying to smile and calm her down.
As I said that she suddenly blacked out and fell to the ground…..

  1. Very intriguing. Generally I prefer more descriptive writing, with more epithets, comparisons, metaphors, but this piece is an exception. Nothings distract a reader from the story line. Good job.
